The reports widget will allow the user to see a report (already created) on the dashboard. In the below case, it is a report for tasks outstanding.

The dropdown allows you to select the report to display.
Saving the report populates the widget - each time you go to the dashboard tab, the report will re-populate.
This is a static list, with no links to the data.
